The principals behind live|it! are storytellers who share the goal of presenting your story in the most interesting, engaging, and memorable way possible.

Joey Madia

Joey is a screenwriter, playwright, immersive experience and Escape Room designer, actor, director, and historical education specialist.

He works with publicists, agents, producers, production companies, and corporations around the world as a story analyst, consultant, script doctor, and freelance writer.

He serves as a consultant for the International Independent Producers Guild’s Virtual Theatrical division, which combines live theatre, live streaming, and edited content with immersive audience experiences.

Joey is the writer and puzzle designer of four Escape Rooms, including the forthcoming Mothman ’66 at the World’s Only Mothman Museum in Point Pleasant, West Virginia.

His award-winning Escape Room in Scotland rose to a challenge—creating an experience that celebrates faerie lore and Scottish history in the living space of a holiday cottage with no build-outs or dedicated space, which can be easily changed over and stored when the hour-long experience is over.

Joey has written several award-winning screenplays and stage plays, and many of his scripts are based on true stories or otherwise steeped in history.

He is a Kennedy Center–trained teaching artist with certifications in arts integration and residencies. He has a certification in Universal Design for Learning, and he has written five books on theatre and storytelling.

wade bray

Wade is a designer, writer, curator, researcher—and a lifelong student of history. Above all, he is a storyteller, drawn to the craft of shaping narrative through words, visuals, and experience.

His career spans roles as a graphic designer, art director, creative director, and marketing director, working across consumer-facing retail, business-to-business, sports, and entertainment. His work has supported organizations ranging from early-stage startups to one of the world’s largest global beauty brands, providing him with a nuanced understanding of audience behavior, brand perception, and cultural trends.

For more than three decades, Wade has worked in the entertainment industry across creation, production, and management. His experience includes exhibits, trade shows, festivals, concerts, and corporate, fundraising, and private events—an ongoing laboratory for understanding how people move through, interact with, and remember immersive experiences.

His approach to storytelling is multidisciplinary, blending written and spoken narrative with carefully considered visual and experiential design. Each project is guided by research, context, and an appreciation for authenticity—ensuring that stories are not only engaging, but grounded and resonant.

In 2019, Wade began developing a traveling exhibition exploring the history of Route 66. Spanning more than 45,000 square feet, the exhibition incorporates walk-through environments, soundscapes, costumed interpreters, vintage vehicles, video, and historical artifacts. Debuting in June 2022, the exhibit has since been experienced by tens of thousands of visitors.

live|it! represents the culmination of a lifetime of creative work—bringing together Wade’s love of history, his commitment to craft, and his belief that the most powerful stories are not just told, but experienced.

“As Creative Director at Port City Tour Company and Beaufort Escape Room, Joey consistently demonstrated his exceptional skills as a master storyteller, performer, and educator. With Joey’s direction, we launched groundbreaking experiences like the educational pirate performance “The Legend of Blackbeard” and our first two escape rooms. His creation, “Blackbeard’s Quest: The Last Days of Charles Vane,” became a sensation, ranking among the top three escape games in North Carolina. Joey’s talent for weaving history with mystery and adventure has not only captivated our local audience but has been recognized on international platforms, including a feature for Tokyo Disney and custom-designed experiences for cruise ship excursions.

Joey Madia is not just a writer and designer; he is an innovator in immersive entertainment. His ability to craft engaging narratives and challenging puzzles makes him an invaluable asset to any project.”
